I had an odd thing happen today. I was cleaning and refilling my tiger salamander's water dishes today and while I was filling the dish I dribbled a little bit of cool water on one of them. He arched his back and started reaching for the glass that was dripping with his snout. Very cute. I let some more drops fall and he arched up further and followed the drops when the moved away. While I let more drop across his back another came over and started doing the same things. I tried letting some drops fall on the other tiger in that container, but he ran away from it like he does everything else. I tried the same thing on my other two tiger's in my other container. This is the really odd part. They did the same arching up and following the droplets. Then the female moved up into the corner and the male followed her and started noseing her right where her rear legs meet her tail. He was really persistant about it and started climbing on her. She moved away and I went to get more water to fill their water dish and came back to find him on her in the middle of the enclosure. It was almost like he was trying to get in amplexus with her.
What do you guys think was happening? Could the water have triggered something and made them want to mate?

You've simulated rain? He was getting a jumpstart?

Hey everyone, just want a little advice. Its 55 - 60 celcius in my Salamanders tank. Hes curled up and tyring ti bury himself, Im assuming hes too cold. I was wondering if he would benefit from a heated rock cave (since he LOVES his cave) that I could set on low? I NEVER see him curled up and trying to bury himself unless his tank sits at 63 degrees celcius or lower. So I am assuming hes a little uncomfortable.

He also seems a little sluggish, again, assuming hes cold. Having heating trouble with the new house right now. What do we think? Was thinking of grabbing this for him since its got very low, medium, and higher medium heat settings that exude heat downward inside the rock cave but ALSO exudes it UPWARDS outside of the rock cave, effectively keeping the tank itself a little warm. Seems like it miiiight be a little small for him though, my guy is about 7 inches from tip of his nose tothe tip of his tail. I also asked this as an actual question in a thread in case anyone wants to answer it there instead of here
