I had a rather skinny little newt, he was extremely emaciated. I found him dead earlier, though ironically I don't think he died from starvation. It appears that he was climbing the glass, which he always does. This time he fell on a rock, and he didn't make it :( Is there any way I can keep my other guys from climbing? They all do it, and I've seen them fall, but it was always on the moss. Is it possible to keep them from climbing, or is it uncontrollable?

They might be climbing because they have not morphed yet, they may be climbing because of the water conditions.

do you have your water stats and temperature?

Also what newts are they, how old are they, where did you get them from?

The water is very good. Temp is about 65-75 degrees. They are red-spotted newts. I have no idea how old they are, I got them from the wild.

I have noticed that both salamanders and newts, what ever the species, have a tendancy to climb the glass only if something is not right in their set-up / temperature etc.. ... otherwise they stay down always... At least this is what I have experienced. I would check the site of Jennewt (caudata culture) to make sure you provide your newts what they need. Good luck, sorry about your loss.
