Seeing as this is the photo gallery, I think it would be a neat addition when folks post their photo's that they also tell what kind of camera they used, and whether they use flash, auto focus, manual ,etc. It would help others take better pics of their axies and tanks. i know I sure would like to know.

I agree!!

So let me start the ball rolling . . .

Kodak EasyShare CX7300 Digital Camera. 3.2 MegaPixels. Manual focus - NO flash (don't want to scare my babies). I just use the editing program that came with the camera - Kodak EasyShare Ware! Or Adobe Photoshop if it's too big to upload (to reduce image size) but still save it as a JPEG file.

Here is an example . . .

a good tip is to use a tripod, this eliminates hand shake a common problem with digital photos, causes bluriness especially with macro settings....

Great idea

These were taken with Fujifilm digital S304 Finepix, which is a great little camera - really easy to use.

The full tank view was taken in regular mode with the flash on, the second pic was taken using the 'close-up' mode, again with flash

Wow, Why didn't I see this post before, dang nabbit!

When our friend comes back over, I'll get some nice shots of our tank and post them here

.

Rob, how do you manage to keep that one plant so purple? Have you had success with all of your plants?

I use a Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T1, 5.1mp... i put the flash on low, and I prefer not to use the zoom...

I took this photo of my morphed axie with a fugi finepix S7000 (on macro mode) with a flash and auto focus

oh my gosh!!
how interesting~~~~!!great photo ! Why did he morph? Did you try to do it on purpose? how much does he stay on land?
jasmine... Oh No!! i thought it was the Cybershot 5.1 D-H !!!

Rheann not sure about the ludwiga, i dont really do anything special other than weekly water changes of approx 30% and 12hr lighting per day on a timer switch 7.30am -7.30pm "no fertilisers" only axie poo but i get it out as soon as i see it. all plants are growing well and rarely drop any leaves, also got rid of aerator a week or so ago cause it wasnt doing my plants any good and now iv'e got rid of duckweed dont think my axies need it.. my java ferns are actually sporing, so gotta be a good sign they are healthy

not sure if it makes a difference but i use ceramic cylinders in bottom 2 trays of my filter
biomax in next 2 trays and carbon in top 2 trays

Hi Theresa, this guy morphed on it's own almost a year ago and spends about 70% of the time on land though he does still like to take a dip!

Andy - what were the signs that you noticed when he started morphing?

What did you then do, lower the water levels?

Morphed axies are so cute

Hi Hayley, the signs i guess are things like the head shape changes from the typical axolotl shovel like head to a more rounded salamander type. Also the fins start to reduce along with a reduction in the gill size.
I've had this happen three times in about 15 years and the process is generally quite fast. My axies however aren;t true axies as they have some tiger salamander genes, proper axolotl morphs look quite different, more gangly and ugly

I've shot mine with a Sony DSCT9S. 6.2 megapixel cybershot.
Only got it at christmas, so still working out what works best. Have a tripod ready, but can only shoot the tank and fish at the moment because my axies are a few weeks away still!

Been pretty impressed with the camera so far, small, but takes awesome shots.

Here are some of Fred and ginger taken with a kodak dx6340 on macro setting, no flash

Really nice lookin' axies. Did you have a tank light on? How did you get the circles around them?

Thanks Theresa. The tank light was on yes. To get the circles I use a cropping tool in my photo editing programme.

Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
