I checked my opacum today and found that he does not look so good. His skin isn't as shiny or slimy and he seems too skinny (pelvis is showing through the lower back skin) when I fed him only a few days ago. He is refusing to eat a chopped earthworm and small crickets which he normally eats with gusto. I isolated him in a small container with clean wet paper towels and put him in the refrigerator.

How long should he be in there? Is there anything else I can do?

Thank you.

Update: I kept him in the refrigerator for several hours last night. This morning he is acting a little more lively. His eyes are open and he can walk around. He is refusing to eat, however. he does that little annoyance snapping when the worm is close to his face but won't actually eat the dang thing. Should I keep him in the small container with the wet paper towels and put him in the fridge again or should I set him up in a normal enclosure and see if he will settle in and then eat?

Thank you.

It would help to describe your set-up, substrate, temps etc.

Set up is a 10 gallon glass tank with coco peat on the bottom. Small water dish with clean cold water I change daily and some pieces or cork bark for hide spots. Temp usually hovers around 68 degrees but never goes above 70.

Oh and at night the temp drops to about 60.

He died. :/

Sorry to hear :/ how old was he? Maybe it was the end of his natural life span?

Thanks. Not sure on the age. He was an adult when I obtained him. I don't think he was old though it was not as large as I have seen some adults of that species.
