I found this juvenile A. laterale back in fall. This is the first time I had ever witnessed a mole salamander using a defensive posture. It was curling its tail back and forth slowly .Unfortunately, it is difficult to tell from photos the actual motion, but I thought I'd share the photos just the same.
This photo shows the salamander next to a plethodon cinereus (leadback phase) found nearby. This gives a better idea of the size of this small juvenile.
