How many axolotls can i get in a tank that big ?

i have 2 adults already but they are staying in the smaller tank in my room ...but if i have any babies i am wanting to keep a few :) so how many can i keep :D

cheers

That's not a common tank size...you sure it's 5ft? 60 inches? 152 cm? And what is the height?

quite a few I'd say assuming the height is the standard 12 - 18 inches.

People have their equations and whatnot about water volume, and that's all well and good but considering that "most" axies spend 90% of their time on the ground, it's the area of ground that is important, and the number of hides.

Personally I'd think 5-6 would be the top end, and would allow each to have their own space and you'd have a very stress free enclosure.

Quality not quantity. If I had a tank that size I'd be tempted to go for one of each colour variety just for the kicks.

Keeping plenty of space will ensure that accidents don't occur and water quality stays good and is easy to maintain.

yea im sure and it is 2 foot high . the reason it has abnormal dimentions is because it was purpose built for a keeper of fish . who we then got it off and have had 2 tiger salamanders in it . up until now , as i want to do it for my axys

that's not a tank, it's a pool.

Sounds good, loads of floor area.

pics please? go on....

okay . it is a bit messy like cos i need to bash out one of the mounds and get some pond soil as i am going to have a layer of that , then weed blocker and then play sand . so then i can plant the plants in the soil and my axys cant dig them up :D

Do you plan on filling it up all the way? A tank that size is going to be extremely heavy when it's full and could even distort the flooring it is on...I hope it's on the very lowest level in your house (like the basement).

That's a monster tank! It'll be so much fun to decorate! I agree 5-6 axolotls would be fine in it. And if I were you (and it's possible given your filters and such) I wouldn't fill it up all the way. My axie tank is usually 2-3 inches lower than the top of the tank: for one, they rarely use that upper space; two, it is a lot of weight that isn't necessary; and three, it keeps them from jumping out, since there's no lid on it.

there will be a lid on it . im gunna use that lumpy plastic sheeting that goes on the top of aquariums . and im gunna get a big fluval and a few airstones in there aswel :p

Why not keep the "bump" in there? It looks kinda cool.

im keeping one in there . but i am getting rid of the largest one as i dont want it in and is alot higher than the other one .and takes up a bit of room :)
