501 canister filter for 20 gallon axie tank. Quick responses VERY appreciated! :D

2 questions about 20 gallon set up for axolotl... I never had a filter for him, but now that he is in a bigger tank I think its time! I have a 501 canister filter; will this be too big for his tank? Really want to use it because if all the different ways it filters and the spray bar is gentler flow. Second, if I can use it... it was used in a cycled turtle tank... should I rinse it completely? Or should I rinse some but not the bag so that it does not mess with parameters? I have a different filter I can use for the turtle that's a higher flow, so don't want to use it for my axie. Hope to hear back quick! )

I went a head and got one for him and I am very happy with it! spray bar facing glass and he goes to that side so must not be bothered by it. he seems very content with it )
