I am moving next summer and assuming I can set up my 40 long ( 4 ft long x 1 ft wide , holds 40 gallons when full) how many axies would be happy? I like to give generous tanks I wouldn't put any more than 3 ... I would like to get a white melanoid and a black melanoid to live with my grey melanoid. but I DO NOT want to crowd them I want them to be spoiled.

40 gal = 4 axies. 4 foot = 3 axies.

This thing's confusing lol, I'm guessing it's pretty tall then?

3 in there should be just fine :) depends how much you want to spoil them though I guess. If you want REALLY spoiled then just the 1 in the 4ft, although that will leave a very large empty tank.

You can fit 4 of average size in a 40 long no problem.

Thanks :) Its 48x 12x16 ... Only 16 inches tall so I can fill it almost completely. I would love to grow them out now so everyone can live together when we move ... LOL ... But patience is a virtue.

What about a 55gallon? I plan on getting this for my axies. My initial plan was to only have 4axies but because of nike and me having to keep him/her because i am curious on its lifespan/quality and how he will look in adulthood with his bent tail And a roomate who wanted one but never took it, i have 5 right now.. Could 5still live happily in a 55gallon? I really dont think i could fit any bigger in my house! We already have a 10gallon with guppies, 30gallon with dempseys and my 25gallon temp home for my zoo of axies. Im just waiting to get back on my feet since i just started working two weeks ago before buying a new tank for them. I think once i get the 55gallon i will be getting rid of the 10gallon and making a tropical tank with my 25 in the same spot my 10gallon is in..

I already have the tank ... Dad gave it to me when I was 12

a 55 has the same footprint so 4 is the max.

Shoot thats what i figured.. Thanks! I may end up having to sell puma :( if my roomate doesnt want him..

Or buy him his own tank , Just a 10 gallon even.

Its funny i just went online to look at tank dimensions and it says 25gallons is pretty much a 20gallon long but higher..

But my 25gallon is 31"x12"x16" its so odd of a size! Is it even a 25gallon?

Well i already have. 10gallon i could use. But i still will have this 25gallon so maybe ill keep that as an axie tank and do the whole male/female split

That would work :) No need to keep everyone together in a huge tank. I just love this tank and have wanted to pull it out for a while now.

It is a nice size! I am super excited to get a bigger tank so i can decorate it and such. And find some more plants that my lotls wont eat.. My two older ones didnt care about any plants but the crypt(so i took it out) but i added my juvies in the tank and one of them ate ALL the hornwort in the tank.. Like 6' of it easily.. And now that i took what was left of it out of the tank to hopefully get it to grow again he is starting to eat the java moss now. Only thing that is not getting eaten is anubias, moss ball and java fern -.-

yes its a 25 gallon :) I looked on aqadvisor. The 31 inches is probably from the top and bottom not the actual tank measurements.

Side note ... I found breeders for both colors I want :D

The length is 31" on the nose. I had to buy a bunch of background for my tank just so i could cut it to size because i could not find the size pre cut. Its 31" long 12" width and 16" high
