I hae this posted in another subject and realized that it fits best here. I have or will soon have 4 axies and I wondering what size tank will fit them snugly, but stilll have them be happy? i don't want them so close they fight but I only have a minimal space to fit them in. Also would a 30 long or 20 long work?

~John

the tank would have to be at least 48 inches long to have 4 in there tightly. I would rather give them extra space though.

Jordan this is kinda off subject, how many axies do u have and howdid u get them, all...?

~John

Ps, also is it true that wild type is usually more agressive then the albinos?

John, are the 4 axies full-grown, or juveniles? I don't think wild type are more aggressive, but albinos are more likely to be the ones who get bullied. Albinos have poor eyesight and are more likely to be weaker specimens.

I have one axie. I got it off of someone on this site. I know it might seem like i must have tons but no, only one....... for now

cool Jordan, Actually Jen 2 are adults 9 1/2 - 10 inches 1 is a juvie and growing at a rapid rate. It is currently around 3-4 inches? I dnot reaaly know..And for a b day present i am ubtaining an albino juvie from my lolcal pet-shope.

I forgot to say that i understand that it will be a while until they all can be uknighted, and Jordan just wondering, is it an albino, or a wild type..?

My my am I forgetful ( and pretty crapy at spelling lol) Today i found a 50 gallon tank at petsmart that would hold my axies quite comfortably. I do not know the demensions but am wondering should I put a rena filstar Xp1 Xp2 or Xp3 or a combo?

~John

the XP1 is rated for 45 gallons, but I have it running in a 55 gallon with no problems. The XP2 is rated for 75 gallons, and that's probably overkill for a 50 gallon tank. If you use the XP1 and some live plants, you should have no problems at all.

That is quite a size difference, John. You might have to keep the smaller one(s) separately for a while. If you do put them together, watch closely for signs of aggression and have a container ready for isolation if it doesn't go well. Be sure to have plenty of hiding places in the tank.

Is the albino a complete albino (pink eyes), or a leucistic (black eyes)? The leucistic seem to be more hardy.

Is that from personal experience, because you never know how one axie is compared to others.

Is what from personal experience?
I understand everything fully, and I will not put them together until they are within 3 inches then I may chace it..

~John

John, you can try a tank divider if you keep two in together

For me with my 60 gallon tank, I am going to try and use fish breeding nets to keep my two smaller baby Axies in with the adults. They are still pretty small, and will probably still be pretty small when my new tank has finished cycling, so hopefully they will still work well then

Tank dividers can be purchased from most pet stores. Petsmart has them for sure

you never know if they might attack each other or not. I had mine together(same size) for about 2 months now and they never fought untill last night when i went to feed mala(female) did squidy(male) snap and try steal to food off her by snapping at her body. I found by feeding squidy first that the agression was gone

I was asking if what Jennifer said at the end of her post was from personal experience because you can never how one axie compares to another in hardiness (or at least i don't think so)

Jordan, genetically, wildtypes and leucistics are more hardy than albinos.

Jordan, I have no personal experience with albino axolotls. However, I based my statement on a fair bit of first-hand knowledge. This includes discussion with the leader of a university axolotl colony that includes both types. While there is always individual variation, it is certainly possible to make generalizations about how hardy one strain of animals is compared to another.
