The 2012 Caudata.org Axolotl Calendar Photo competition is now officially open!

This is the third year for us to run a competition to find 13 stunning photos to display on the Caudata.org Axolotl Calendar. This is a separate calendar competition, just for axolotls. Calendars are sold worldwide via the Caudata.org axolotl store.

The rules are very simple:
1) The image must be of an axolotl.
2) The image must be a minimum of 2000 x 1500 pixels, although the larger the better. Most modern digital cameras produce much larger original images.
3) You must be the owner of the photo. You will retain the copyright. By entering you give Caudata.org permission to use the image on the calendar.
4) You may enter a maximum of 5 images.

How to enter:
It’s simple – submit your photos to the following email address photocomp@caudata.org. Please attach 1 photo per email (so if you're entering 5 photos, send five separate emails with a photo attached to each). The closing date for entries is the 31st October 2012.

Images that meet the above requirements will appear in this thread for all to enjoy. Please do not post images directly to this thread.

2010's competition winners can be viewed in this gallery. 2011's entries for both competitions can be viewed here.

Good luck!

Hi, I was just wondering if this competition is still active? I sent some pictures just about 2 weeks ago and I haven't seen any posts here so I was curious. Thanks!

Absolutely, I'm just not as good as Mark at posting entries. Expect something in the next day or so. Please enter photos folks, we're running out of time!

Hope mine make it in! Had to use my phone but have uploaded full size pix with it before. Didn't put my name, just user id, but saw others from last year put their names in? Impatiently waiting! Ha-ha! :)

I posted the following in the other competition thread but the same goes for the Axolotl Calendar competition:

I'm the one running this year's competition, and as you can tell, I haven't posted the entries in the thread yet but there are plenty. I've been snowed under the past few weeks. I haven't even been able to find time to enter some of my own pics :(.

I've decided to extend the deadline to Sunday (November 4th).

Please remember that you must email your entries to photocomp@caudata.org. They won't be accepted any other way (so don't post them in this thread - that's not a valid way to enter).

Lastly, the photos should be a bare minimum of 2000 x 1500 pixels in dimensions. Several people have emailed me smaller photos and where I've noticed this I've notified them, but please check your entries.

Thanks for your patience!

I know you can't reply to everyone, but I am such a worrier and wondered if you got mine okay?

I don't recognise someone called scooty as having emailed me.

Thats strange, I sent them to the email you put up  will try again later!

hi, i submitted a few photos to the email a few weeks ago. i didn't leave my name or username in the email though.

will my photos still be entered into the competition?

Anyone who didn't include their username will receive an email back from me some time this weekend or on Monday. The photos will still be entered.

Hi

Hope I am not too late! I am going to send the photos over now, so please let me know if you get them!

The competition is now closed. Entries will be posted to this thread in the next week and judging will begin shortly.

The entries for the 2013 Axolotl Calendar Competition are now posted here. Judging will take place over the next 10 days. If you entered and your photos are not present, you were notified via email what the problem was (and given the option of fixing the problem).

Please note! As always, any judge who entered the competition can't vote for their own photos (so technically they are at a disadvantage).

Alright, to get the judging ball rolling, the first 10 members to Private Message me can be judges of both competitions. Keep in mind that if you entered the competitions, you can't vote for your own photos, so it might be a slight disadvantage to winning if you ask to be a judge!

Still have some judging spots available - send me a private message.

What's the latest update on this?

Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
