Hi people!

I just got my new 275L (60G) tank today and I'm cleaning it out at the moment. The tank is 110x50x50cm. I have got 2 axolotls now, their around 20cm. Can I place them in this tank, or is this to big for them? I'm planning to make a naturalistic setup, with real plants and stuff. I also have an old Eheim filter (typ388, 240L/H), will this be enough? Or should I buy a bigger/better one?
I will post a topic of the build of the setup and some pic's soon!;)

The tank will not be too big for them, imagine them being at 30 cm plus . Bare in mind they do produce a fair bit of waste so the filter should be good, however it'll probably need the water out let to be diffused as the axolotl do not like a strong current. Plants will need to be fairly sturdy as they seem to take some delight in re-arranging their tank contents they will make a fair ammount of use of the plants as they like to float arround/ in the leaves. My axolotl make a lot of use of their water space. Finally the tank will need to be set up somewhere that you can easily keep cool as the tank temps need to stay ideally below 20 degrees...summer time I need to keep a fan blowing over the surface. Hope this helps.

When I first saw the post I thought inches and got all excited. I keep forgetting the rest of the world has progresed beyond our system.

Hi Peter,

That tank size should be fine for two axies. Filter should also be fine.

Looking forward to seeing how it all looks.

Good Luck

Okee, thanks people! I'm looking forward to it too!:D And maybe in the future, I will put another 2 in it. Do you people have any further advice on coldwater plants for the tank?

Horn Wort goes crazy in my tank, Jav moss, Mario moss balls.

Water cress (Nasturtium officinale) bought cheaply from the supermarket as a salad is an excellent semi-floating plant. I let it form a congested mass of shoots and roots in my tanks.
