Oh 1 more question can i go a head and get a salamander and put it in 5 gallon for awhile until i get the tank set up?

Triturus and Taricha are both semi-aquatic and would do well in a 10 gallon (2 or 3 Triturus, but only one Taricha would fit into this tank, mind you: do NOT put both species in the tank!!) If you get juveniles, putting them in the 5 gallon wouldnt be a problem, but it would probably be easier on you AND the salamander to wait until you get the 10 gal set up and functioning.

PS: http://www.caudata.org/cc/species/species.shtml this is where all our caresheets are. Happy Searching.

Thanks alright i was only planing on getting 2, Could people help me with these 2 questions? What do i use?Sand or earth or gravel?
And what plants could i use for the tank? Are fake better? Oh and how much could these guys cost? It's probably based on the type?

It depends on what animals you get. if they're aquatic, I keep mine with scattered stone substrate (easier to clean than gravel), or if you get terrestrial animals, I use plain dirt substrate (no fertilizers, no pesticides, etc). I use real plants, mainly Pothos (it's in all of my tanks), but for that you do need a light source. Some people prefer fake plants for ease of maintainance. And cost is animal/seller dependent.

Okay thanks i have a few plants i going to try (out of the water) Elephant ear,Spider plant, Philidorthan plant (i think you spell it like that)
And maby a few live aquatic plants ... duck weed or maby onion plant or Anarchis.

duckweed can be bad, they dont call it weed for nothing. But anarchis is good, as well as hornwort and various others.

OKay thanks, I plan on getting a plant pot (Terra cotta plant pot) to make a island is this a good idea?

Actually I like duckweed in my enclosures at work. Duckweed pulls lots of pollutants out of the water fairly quickly. I just take a net and skim most of the duckweed off every week and then scrape down any that is dried to the sides of the tank.

I agree,i think duckweed is great in tanks, like Ed said it beneficial and looks great!

But like Ed implied, it grows prolifically, and can sometimes be a pain. I used it in my fishtanks for some time, but it overgrew everything.
