So last night my Axolotl Surprised me with 400 eggs which i thought was alot so i collected them all out of the tank THEN this morning i woke up to another 400 eggs!! i thought for sure she is done and i get home today to find ANOTHER bunch of eggs in the tank,LONG story short i have 1077 eggs from one female wild who i don't know the father is but all my axolotls have leucistic gene so im sure il get some leucistic.

When i was looking at the eggs in the container that i put them in i noticed that a good hand full of the eggs had more than one embryo some counting up to 6 embryos for one egg! Iv never seen that many embryos before in one egg iv had the occasional double before but not up to 6 and at this huge number close to half share a egg! Is this going to effect the health of the babies? Will they develop the same? Will they morph together and make chimera axolotl`s or some weird mutated 12 legged Axolotl?

Wow that's a lot of eggs!!

There's no way of knowing what'll happen here, you'll just have to wait and see.

Will they morph together and make ... some weird mutated 12 legged Axolotl?

Haha! Now that's one I would love to see!
I believe sometime twins (or more) can result in only one embryo hatching successfully, but they can all survive and develop normally if they do hatch.

Good luck - keep us updated!

Im wondering if i should separate all the embryos that share a egg or just a few? And yes i know i was thinking that too especially with the ones with higher number because there is a chance one will be ready to break free while the others still need a day or two.

Auntiejude hopefully they end up all fine with a couple chimera even though its a one in a million chance and one with 12 legs LOL but if that does happen i wouldn't want it to have any health problems.

What came of this?

Only a fraction of them made it, the "twins" hatched as separate axies no chimera axolotls in this batch unfortunately. Second and third batch were alot more successful with hatching and survival also on the third batch i got 2 odd axolotls, one Albino or golden albino to young to tell but definitely has albino eyes and the other one appears to be missing his left eye. Have them separated from the rest.
