Are RFP axies available at all in the pet trade? I know that certain breeders produce them for scientific research purposes, but I'm curious if anyone sells them into the pet trade and if it is legal to do so. If so, who has them?

do you mean the glow in the dark axies?

If you mean GFP "green flourescent protein" axolotl, then yes there are lots in the pet trade.

RFP is Red Fluorescent Protein as opposed to Green Fluorescent Protein.

Oh neat!! I'd love to see any info you have about it? I've never heard of that in axolotl and Google isnt being very helpful? But no I have not seen any labeled RFP in the pet trade.

I've done more digging. RFPs are in the pet trade already, but many people don't realize it because you need a Cyan 488nm light(490nm or 500nm is the closest I've found on ebay). Just like UV light shows GFP, Cyan lighting shows RFP. You're axie could be RFP but you don't know it!

theres a listing for RFP lucy's near me currently, trying to contact the seller and see if i can get a specimen for myself

they seem hard to find but it might just be that they get sold as GFP as some have both NFP genes (so they glow purple/blue instead of solid green or red)

I have around 10 babies RFP. I thought the eggs had ordered were GFP. (But the private breeder simply told me they glow under the right lighting.)

So if you like to chat I’m on Facebook..Michelle Green Greensburg IN

Had a question that I just want to be sure of. My marbled newt is a little over a year old and has started to develop and I noticed that he is starting to swell a little below his abdomen. I guess I’d like to know if they are his testes or if I need to be concerned.

Hello!!! I'm new to this website and idk how to ask a proper question on the designated spot yet, so I'll ask here, I'm a first time Axolotl owner, and my dad used to run an aquarium store, anyways... Orca, my Axolotl, seems to loose parts of her toes on one limb from time to time, I can't seem to find the problem. Tempature is well, she doesn't seem to have any infections or anything, though. And I'm not sure if I'll be able to find a vet in Brazil for amphibians that are in a reasonable distance to drive without stressing Orca out too much

Hello, I’m hoping for some advice please. Our Axolotl is about 7 months old. Till now no problem. Eating, growing and happy. He’s simply stopped eating. Everything looks fine, his gills look healthy and no apparent signs of sickness. He just swims past the pellets and bloodworm like he can’t smell it. I don’t think it’s a blockage either. Any ideas and suggestions for treatment would be much appreciated. Thank you!
