Okay so I have 6 Spanish ribbed newts living in a 100 gallon aquarium(4F,2M), and have been keeping this species of newt for about 4 years now. I have noticed recently with one of my younger males that he has these dark spots on his body that almost looks like shed. But when I gently rubbed over them to see if they would come off(I washed my hands don't worry) they didn't. The water parameters are all good and I haven't introduced any plants, fish, or snails into the tank in months. So I was wondering if anyone knew what this is? bad or okay? what causes it ? etc. I haven't seen this before, they does not look like when they normally shed their skin. There has been no changes in behavior or appetite.
