Hi! I hope everyone’s morning is going better than mine.

I woke up this morning to see Popcorn not in his tub. For context, he and his siblings are individually tubbed for a week while I am home from school. They get 100% daily water changes.

Immediately, I panicked. I spent the next five minutes looking for him only to see him in the corner of the room. I raced to pick him up- he was still moist and reacted when I touched him, before placing him back in his tub.

Luckily, the tub was on the floor, so he didn’t fall far, but his limbs are an angry red and a bit crooked, and his back is arched. I put some Indian almond leaves in his tub to help his damaging slime coat.

I am SO SCARED. This has never happened to me. Will he be alright???

is there a reason for your axolotls being tubbed?
although a bit late always use a lid etc.. as axolotls are prone to trying to jump out.
ensure the water is kept cold to allow for healing, add 2g/l non iodised salt to the water.
due to the time taken for almond/catappa leaves to release benificial tanins it is quicker to crush leaves into a mug of boiled water, allow to cool and use the extract.
feed at night, change water in morning.
he should heal fine with plenty of care.

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
