Hi,
I am a first time axolotl owner - I’ve had Sal and Amanda for about 2 months now. I’m not certain but I think one is male and one is female. I came to check on them this morning and saw lots of black dots all over their tree in the tank, which I assume are eggs. Amanda is behaving erratically and looked like she was trying to stuff them under her back legs. She won’t stop zooming around the tank and coming up for air. Sal has been very chill. Does this mean they have mated?

These are eggs. Separate Sal from Amanda ASAP. Amanda will swim around and find plants and fake plants to lay the eggs on. This process could take a day or two as they can lay up to 700 eggs. After she's done, you'll want to separate her from the eggs as axolotls are cannibals, and you'll want to feed her well. Her cloaca will be swollen and red, make certain flesh isn't coming out of it as that will be a health problem.

Congratulations to your axolotls and good luck taking care of these eggs!
