So we decided to take an occasion to visit this place until it`s overcrowded with tourists. We`ve got quite nice list of finds although we had no luck to find top species.
The wheather was very pleasant, sunny with day temps about 20°C.

Some more photos. I met nose horned for first time and I was surprised how fast and agile it is in comparison with common European viper.

Awesome photos! Thank you for sharing. The lizards are just beautiful!
What kind of newt was that?

Amazing landscape!!! Would never have guess it was Croatia. What are those concrete ponds built for? Drinking water for goats?

Regards Neil

Hi,
I guess it was southern smooth newt. I would never have expected any surface water either amphibians on dry karstic plateau. There are several of these artificial lakes primarily built for sheep watering . Each one was nicely populated with newts and large amounts of toad tadpoles, probably green toad.

Sounds like a great choice to explore Croatia, especially before the tourist crowds arrive! 🌞

Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
