I think I nearly did back flips when I saw that Margie had some melanoid axolotls available. She shipped mine on Saturday and it arrived this morning.

I was a little worried at first because he(I know they're unsexed right now but I hope he's a boy!) was a lot lighter than I was expecting. But he was too cute when I tried to feed him! Tipping his nose up like he was waiting to be hand fed!

I put a black piece of fabric under his QT tank and in less than a half hour, he was looking more like this:

What a big difference in such a short period of time, right? I'm so excited to have this cutie to add to my collection! Now all I need to do is track down copper and dalmatian axolotls in the US....

This guy seems to be settling in to his QT tank. Another picture to share!

I'm just glad I have a good camera to get all their glorious detail!

I just love taking pictures of this guy, what can I say?

Thanks for sharing Niki! I love the picture of one perched on the tank decor. S/he just looks like they're thinking "Commoooon.... blend!"

I notice a scale in the last picture. May I ask why you weigh/how often?

Yes they seem to love the mopani wood! I weighed after a week with me and will probably not weigh again for about a month. I just like to track the growth of my animals and make sure I'm giving them the best care. Growth in length and weight is a good way to track that. It was moderately stressful for them so I will not do it often.

Leftover habit from my goldfish breeding I think. Also allows me to examine them closely and check overall health. I have to be very gentle and let them swim into a fine net

Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
