Hi all here are pics of my two tigers the first it chewey my male (the greener one with the spot on his head) and te second is Becka my bright yellow female. Chewey lives in his water dish most the time and spends all night chasing becka around she just like to get fed! they are both 'whistle trained' I whistle when I am about to feed them so they come out of hiding and tumble over each other untill they are fed LOL! I am very lucky to be certain of sex (becka has a nice round tummy and chewey is very well endowed) Sorry for the poor quality.

Chewey's behavior is unusual. It is atypical for a tiger to want to be in water - their nature is to burrow. What sort of substrate are you using?
 
I am aware its a bit wierd for him to act like this but they are in a mix of those coco blocks and leaves if he wanted to burrow he could because becka does. acidity is fine cannot remember if it was slightly under or over 7 ph he very rarely burrows I think he thinks his chances of getting fed are better if he is somewhere obvious (he might be right) he eats fine and as you can tell he is really healthy. Temps have not been high (untill today and yesterday as fellow brits will agree) the room has no central heating so water temp is at 10-13 c room temp a bit higher. I am confident that he is A ok so am not worried at all about this (when I bought him the previous owner said he hadn't known one like him before and that he was very 'sociable')
 
I doubt the 'whistle training' as tiger salamanders lack any specific hearing mechanisms. They are more likely to react to the vibrations of your footfalls and your shadows coming over the tank.
 
didnt know that maybe you are right then ? But they used to react like that everytime I went in the room now they only go nuts when I whistle (because thats when I feed them) and they come out of hidding so I would of thought that they can hear it or 'sense' the whistling some how. Maybe they hear a bit better than they are given credit for? I will try making a different noise for a while to indicate food as an 'experiment' or cover the glass of the tank to see what happens. Very interesting that because they must be sensing it some how.

    Hey everyone, just want a little advice. Its 55 - 60 celcius in my Salamanders tank. Hes curled up and tyring ti bury himself, Im assuming hes too cold. I was wondering if he would benefit from a heated rock cave (since he LOVES his cave) that I could set on low? I NEVER see him curled up and trying to bury himself unless his tank sits at 63 degrees celcius or lower. So I am assuming hes a little uncomfortable.

Was thinking of grabbing this for him since its got very low, medium, and higher medium heat settings that exude heat downward inside the rock cave but ALSO exudes it UPWARDS outside of the rock cave, effectively keeping the tank itself a little warm. Seems like it miiiight be a little small for him though, my guy is about 7 inches from tip of his nose tothe tip of his tail.
