When i first bought him, he was housed with 4 other young axoltol's, they took a few bites out of his gills but they have healed well.
He is always very alert.

sometimes he snaps at nothing and just reacts to us moving around the room...

i make sure the air curtain does not disrupt the water too much, i can turn it up and down, i turned it up a bit just so it was visible in a picture.
i will be moving him into a bigger tank soon, and maybe after a year introduce a new axoltol!
