I love your pirate set-up! I don't have anything like that in my tank--I've been afraid that cleaning would be a killer job if I put any substrate in. I actually have hamster tubes and a hamster house in my tank. Does the ship not have sharp edges? I'd be worried the "babies" might get hurt when they get into their "zooming" mode.
