This is cool, is it for your Salamandra salamandra?
Is there dirt piled against the sheets of wood? could this rot?

Hi Rob,
No, it is for my Anguis fragilis (slow-worms). It is south and west facing so will be too sunny for Salamanders. But it does have some Trituris vulgaris (smooth newt) in the old sink which provides the small pond. This pic was taken before I finished sorting out the sink.

Since the cold weather this winter I made the bank much bigger with a greater volume of rubble under it to provide enough protecti for hibernating reptiles. The boards which form one side and tehback are external grade plyboard which were treated withpreservative prior to construction (and thoroughly dried). They should be ok for years without rotting.

My Sallies are in two large glass tanks done as naturalistic vivaria but kept by a shadey north facing wall.

cheers
Andrew
