This is Tony, my pet barred tiger salamander. He seems to have an insatiable appetite for large crickets and worms is the only member of my salamander collection that finds ways to let me know that he's hungry!
Well, besides looking pretty, they have a lot of personality and seem to be very hardy. Just make sure you don't keep them with any smaller salamanders -- they probably would mistake them for food!
Yes, you're right, I may have been overfeeding him a little, letting these guys just take all they can eat is not really best for them... I'm trying to see if I can put him on a diet.
No, he definitely is very healthy, just a little overfed... perhaps also he may not be getting sufficient exercise and needs to be upgraded to a larger tank.
He's so chubby, haha! They are prone to getting big rather quickly. Had to put mine on a diet in February and he slimmed down quickly. They have such big appetites, and it is so hard to say no when they have such cute eyes. He's a very cute big guy.
