So I've finally gotten around to posting about my first lot of lotls!! A big thank you to Firedreams who shipped me my new kidlets :3

I've decided on holding off naming until I their back legs have fully developed - and hopefully when they'll be in their 5' tank (which probably won't be for another month). The only one I named so far is my melanoid, Toothless (I saw it in on the name list and I couldn't resist....)

These pics are from Tuesday afternoon (when they arrived). The babies finally started to take an interest in bbs yesterday ^_^

And here is some update photos of Toothless and the babies.

Toothless's back paddlers are coming in nicely!! As you can see in that one photo - he looks almost like a leucistic now! It's due to the white container I keep him in - if I transfer him into a darker one he goes normal color :3

Don't mind the bare set up for the babies.. I'll be splitting them up soon (hopefully into individual containers), and I took their leaves out for the photos :)

Adorableness overload! Such tiny babies. I'm loving all the speckles.

oh some brother and sister of my little one:)

that give me an idea of what mine will look like:)

Update: Today my juvies are 2 - 2 3/8" long. I have decided to upgrade them from their yogurt containers because they look cramped. They are moving into 12" x 9" containers, though those seem too big for now - any suggestions for putting a divider in??

The hatchlings are still only 5/8" long... I think it's because I wasn't able to hatch enough bbs so I fear they're been a bit lacking for nutrition. Today I fed them white worms cut in half and they eagerly took those - I even tried some chopped frozen bloodworms which they also took, so I'm thinking of stopping the bbs hatchery all together.

The blackworms from BC I was going to order may not happen now - I have been informed that their carrier is no longer going to carry. I guess I'll find out tomorrow whether or not they'll have any last batches available. Still considering whether or not to continue with the order and just get daphnia and grammarus shrimp.

Crowbar is doing better - he had developed a tilt in his swimming (slightly left), but now he can swim straight. I'm hoping when his limbs come in he'll be better balanced.. but otherwise he's eating well so I'm still hopeful for his survival.

I have temporarily named another - Bumper - I think he either bumped into something or got a bite on his head because smack dab in the middle of his forehead is a red dot.

Now for some much needed photos :)

Since last post, babies have been fed white worms almost exclusively (with tiny amounts of bbs), and they're now approaching the 3/4" mark, so phewf!

I'm now dogsitting at a lady's house, and it's a half hour drive on the perimeter to mine, so I packed everyone up and brought them with me. Everyone arrived safely (though I'm sure I gave some headaches over the bumpy parts in the road) and I've changed my set up!

The juvies are all in their new larger containers (higher versions of the 12" x 9") - I can tell they love the larger footprint from the yogurt containers. They've been gobbling down their bloodworms so I may up to feeding them 3x a day. Most are 2 3/8" - 2.5" now! Shoots, I say, growing like shoots!!!! If they continue at this rate, by the time my 6 weeks of dogsitting is over, they'll be too big for their current containers!!

I have split up the hatchlings (kind of sorted by size) into 6 of the 12 x 9 containers - in groups ranging from 6 to 10. I'm hoping I can keep them like this for a few weeks before putting them in the army of individual containers I brought along with me. Feeding the white worms to each hatchling takes time, but I don't have to worry about food dying and decaying, so water stays cleaner longer! I don't have to do 100% water changes daily... will still likely do ~50% daily. Sounds good? How often should I relocate them to scrub out their containers?

Here's a pic of the current set up:

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
