Hi all,
Whilst on a family holiday in Dresden last week I was lucky enough to visit a 15 year old Chinese Giant Salamander at Dresden Zoo. It is 1.05m long, bred in Germany, and is currently behind the scenes in temporary accommodation whilst it's larger display tank is refurbished. The zoo was very interesting, with one of the stand-out exhibits a huge 50 year old Saltwater Crocodile, the largest in Europe at a length of over 4.5 metres. With these animals so scarce in captivity I thought you all may be interested to see some pictures.
George.

wow. That's One Fat Newt! My bro lives in Dresden; maybe I'll send him over there to take some more pics of that fella :)

I was not aware that Andrias had been bred in captivity. But if anyone can do it, it's the Germans. Y'all can breed anything!

Both are very impressive beasts O_O Thanx for sharing!

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
