Very pretty little axolotl.
But......the size of your gravel could prove deadly for them. Axolotl are prone to 'accidentally' gulping the stones while eating. This in turn can cause impaction. If you wish to have a substrate , childrens play sand (well rinsed first) works really well.

Oh, they are lovely little posers!

Have you considered entering the calendar competition?

Oh they are very nice. Great pictures aswell, you should definetaly enter the calender competition. I love his/hers big smile :)

Hello,

I like your take-off on the Japanese for "axolotl"! I've spent some time at a number of zoos and aquariums in Japan, working on cooperative projects between these institutions and the Bronx Zoo, and was surprised by how popular axolotls are in your country.

Best regards, Frank

Very nice axies,and I love your photos.

Thanks everyone for so nice comments! I`m still new to this site so I just haven`t heard about calender competition, and of cause I like the idea to enter it!
I agree that the gravel is too small for axies, I`ve changed it already.

Now axolotls are not so popular in Japan as before. But still we can find them in some pet shops. I also heard from many people that several years ago there was an Axolotl boom in Japan.

Wow I really like the colour of Rupa, I've never seen one like it, is there a special name for that type?

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
