Larval Texas Barred Tiger Salamanders nearing metamorphosis

I must admit I'm pretty proud of these photos. Taken tonight (when I should be in bed). Ambystoma mavortium mavortium. These are 16-17 cm long, nearing metamorphosis. The first and last photos are 1 animal which is nearest to metamorphosis (note the fin depth reduction and increased barring). The middle photo is the animal I have posted photos of previously here and here, which is obviously not in the mood to metamorphose yet.

Jonathan: it certainly looks that way. I'm very new to this - the closest I have been to keeping larval tiger salamanders was when I once raised an Ambystoma opacum larva (which I got from a member of this forum in the UK). Unfortunately at metamorphosis there was a problem and I lost the little guy. I hope this doesn't happen with the tigers. Obviously I have raised a lot of axolotls over the years but these are distinctly different, and obviously metamorphosis is a new issue to me for this genus.
 
Regarding Jonathan's question, the 3 larvae have since metamorphosed (they all lost their gills by about 2 weeks ago). The colour did indeed develop from the tail forwards, but what I find most interesting is that the colour also develops from the bottom up - this happens after the tail to head appearance of colour bars/lines, and then the colour intensifies from the belly towards the dorsal area. One of them has nearly full intensity now but it's possible to almost see the changes in the other two. I'll take some photos in about 2 weeks when the colour has peaked. The largest of the three is nothing short of stunning - I don't think anyone on the site will have seen a barred that looks quite like this (unusual patterning and high amount of yellow-cream coloured areas).
 
Thats great that they morphed without a problem. What do you plan on doing with the adults? Oh yeah, could we see some pictures of the newly morphed guys?:D

    Had a question that I just want to be sure of. My marbled newt is a little over a year old and has started to develop and I noticed that he is starting to swell a little below his abdomen. I guess I’d like to know if they are his testes or if I need to be concerned.

I'm new to this website and idk how to ask a proper question on the designated spot yet, so I'll ask here, I'm a first time Axolotl owner, and my dad used to run an aquarium store, anyways... Orca, my Axolotl, seems to loose parts of her toes on one limb from time to time, I can't seem to find the problem. Tempature is well, she doesn't seem to have any infections or anything, though. And I'm not sure if I'll be able to find a vet in Brazil for amphibians that are in a reasonable distance to drive without stressing Orca out too much

    Hello, I’m hoping for some advice please. Our Axolotl is about 7 months old. Till now no problem. Eating, growing and happy. He’s simply stopped eating. Everything looks fine, his gills look healthy and no apparent signs of sickness. He just swims past the pellets and bloodworm like he can’t smell it. I don’t think it’s a blockage either. Any ideas and suggestions for treatment would be much appreciated. Thank you!

    Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
