It is a 20long with a Whisper 60 (turned almost all the way down). Estes' Marine Sand (beige). The sand is chemically inert so it will not alter pH in any way. I will probably add some live plants and a few other pieces of decor before too long.

looks good, is your whisper working well? i am looking into purchasing one.
 
Yes, but if I was going to buy a new filter it would not be a Whisper. I have used them for over a decade and I would prefer something like an AquaClear that I can reuse the media in. I do not use carbon since it is not needed and can do more harm than good. So it is basically mechanical and biological and the AquaClears are better at both of these.
 
It's very... sterile looking. It also does not provide different height strata of hiding places. And with the fact all your PVC face the same way, the animal would have no place to hide from light.
