So if you have been following me, you know I lost my babies this week. The store I bought them from gave me new ones at a very very reduced price. So here they are.

They are cuties! And that was very nice of the store.

Little cuties. I'm certainly no expert......but shouldn't sand be avoided until they are bigger......I understood it can cause impaction in babies like gravel in adults.......

I never heard it should be avoided. I only heard that while axies (juvies or adults) may swallow, the risk of impaction related illness and injury are menial as they are usually able to pass it. They have silt ot rocks in the natural habitat and I use heavy play sand that does not unsettle easily. Thanks for the concern.

It is generally advised not to use sand until they are at least five inches long. But they will probably be fine as long as the sand is fine (which it looks like it is) and they are not fed directly on the sand. It is not ideal but I did have sand with mine as well when they were too small as I was not expecting to be getting axolotls smaller than five inches. Just make sure they are hand fed above the sand or use a feeding bowl or jar.

Nice looking axies and I love the names :) glad you have gotten another couple :)

Thanks Skudo09. They have a feeding bowl and I hand fed them once.

Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.

sorry I am having a hard time trying to upload the pictures- I have them saved on my hard drive... any suggestions-the prompts here are not allowing for downloads that way as far as I can tell. Thanks
