Hi, i know some of you have used this product, and i´ve also heard it works pretty well.
I have a couple of doubts.
I read there is a risk of toxicity(liver damage?) if the product is abused, but how does this work...how much is abusing?
I´d also like to know if there is any contraindication if used in animals that show no red/orange coloration. The product is supossed to be a good suplement and i´d like to use it with all my animals if possible, but i´m unsure as to wether it´s a good idea or not. Suplements are not hugely expensive, but still... and they are short lived...i hate to buy them and then throw them away after 6 months having only used a fraction of the powder...It would be good to use only one product, but i suspect it wouldn´t be a good idea.

Nekton Rep does make a vitamin without the color ingredient.
I think the color ingredient is canthanxanthin or something similar that can be a problem if overused.
I've heard anecdotal stories about canthanxanthin causing liver damage.
It's a good product when used in moderation to maintain natural color in yellow, orange, and red amphibians.
When breeding dart frogs I used to use Nekton Rep color on all of my juveniles. I quit using it on everything after producing powder blue tinctorius that were yellow and blue. Powder blue tinctorious don't normally have any yellow.

Thank you Michael, i apreciate it.
I´ll just use the Nekton-Rep Color for those animals that i want to gain colour, and another suplement for the rest.
Do you have any idea for how long is it safe to use on each animal? I heard it´s pretty safe for three weeks or so....further use can develop into liver damage. That´s what i heard but i´d like comfirmation.
I´d hate to risk my animals health for something as silly as enhancing their colours. If it can be used safely though...then why not?

Rather than using a lot of it for 3 weeks, it seems to me it would be better to just use it occasionally, maybe once per month or so. If you are worried about toxicity, this seems less risky.

I used Nekton-Rep Color frequently for a couple of years. I never noticed any problems. But after reading some recommendations by Ed Kowalski about choosing supplements, I became worried about vitamin A toxicity. It has higher than the recommended amount.

I have switched to using the RepCal/HerptiVit combo. This also contains some carotene, and seems to do as well (or nearly so) in raising nice red firebellies.

Thank you Jen. I think i´ll give the nekton a try. I don´t believe i´ve ever seen the other products, i´m unsure as to wether they are available here.

Ok, i somehow thought the RepCal-Herptivite was a combo of two separate products, but it´s actually just one right?? RepCal being the brand and Herptivite being the particular product they make for our animals.
I´ve heard good reviews of the product, i´ll try to find it(I can´t seem to find the Nekton for a decent price anyway).

PS: so it´s two products....i´m confused and i feel very stupid xD Can someone please explain to my inferior mind EXACTLY which two products i would have to purchase? If i do it myself i´m sure i´ll end up buying the wrong stuff....

Ok, so there is no way to find that stuff here. The only way is buying from the US which costs a friking fortune.
I´ve been doing some reading and here in Europe people are using Herpetal Amphib with apparently good results....any experience with that? Apparently no carotenes...but i´m starting to not give a damn right now...i just want something to keep my animals healthy.
Sorry for all the questions...i really want to find a decent product.
